She ran thin fingers idly through the other woman's hair, watching curiously as the late afternoon sun aged the day in the same why tea does paper.

"I miss you when, you're gone," she said softly, her voice high and sweet, bearing only the faintest mechanical ring.

"I know you do," the brunette said sadly, regret etched into her sighing tone.

Fi continued to play with her hair, her fingers clicking a little. The brunette's hair was soft and real. Her skin was warm and real. Fi looked longingly at the strands between her digits.

"You're so beautiful," the blonde whispered to those strands. The woman whose head was in her lap sighed again, reaching up to cup Fi's cheek in her warm palm,

"But you're perfect."

The blonde closed her eyes, leaning into the hand, looking down at the perfectly flawed face beneath her.

"Will you kiss me?" she asked, hoping to feel more of the realness. If she tried, she could be real, just like her.

The brunette nodded, sitting up on her elbow and using the hand that was already on Fi's face to bring her down into a kiss. It wasn't much as kisses go; a lingering peck, but Fi relished it. It was real and warm, and she imagined that it must feel like love did.
The woman in her lap sank back down, feeling bitter, looking longingly at the content expression on the delicate features above her.

"I love you," the blonde said, smiling.

"I know you do, Fi. I know you do."  Her reflected smile was warped and melancholy.  She turned on her side, reluctant to leave the comfort of the blonde's lap, but wanting to face away from her and her facsimile of reality.

She didn't want to think about the clockwork key in Facsimile Intelligence's back.
An idea I'm toying with: Clockwork girls.

Inspired partially by the song "Coin Operated Boy" by the Dresden Dolls: [link] and my own musings of "Hmmm. I need me one of them. But I don't feel like boys."

Hence Clockwork Girls.

Fi: (Fee) = F.I. --> Facsimile Intelligence.

Facsimile: means copy. So she doesn't learn, she just imitates intelligently.

I really want to make a comic for this. Or at the very least character sketches.

Fi's owner is never going to be directly portrayed or named. I need to think up a suitable pet name to use in place of brunette, because that's all I know about her.

...My stalking, or not so much stalking as following the clues, has been successful and has reaped many great rewards! Like this piece for instance. I do enjoy me a good, morally ambiguous story. :) Cannot wait to see where you take this.
